365 GTS/4 Daytona Spider

1974

€ 3,500,000 EUR

In 1968, Ferrari unveiled the 365 GTB/4, a berlinetta model that introduced the famous shark-nose design by Leonardo Fioravanti. The 365 model earned the legendary nickname "Daytona" as a nod to Ferrari's famous 1-2-3 finish against the mighty Ford GTs at the 1967 24 Hours of Daytona race. Although Enzo Ferrari never officially endorsed the name, it has become an enduring and important part of the car's legacy.

The convertible version we have here, known as the 365 GTS/4, made its debut at the 1969 Frankfurt Motor Show and became an instant collectible. The Daytona Spyder was the final handbuilt Ferrari to use the recipe of a front-engined, open-top Spyder to feature a derivation of Colombo’s V12, it marked the end of two decades of development and was the last of a series of Ferraris that includes the iconic 250 California and 275 NART Spyder.

Like its predecessors, the Daytona Spyder is an incredibly rare car, with only 122 examples ever produced. This particular one, the 113th produced, was originally delivered in April 1973 to the official Swiss Ferrari importer SAVAF. Though destined for the American market, it was instead sold to renowned Swedish Ferrari collector Anders “Aje” Philipson.

The car remained in Philipsson’s collection up until last year, driven only a handful of times, which accounts for its incredible original condition and low mileage of just 3,897 miles. The car retains its original factory colour combination, A deep Marrone (106-M-73) exterior perfectly paired with a Pelle Nera Connolly leather interior. Built to US specifications, it features a miles odometer, factory air-conditioning, and a Voxson Stereo with AM/FM radio and an 8-track player. The car comes complete with its "briefcase" toolkit, an additional leather tool bag, and a spare wheel.

In November 2011, the car was certified by Ferrari Classiche, as is documented by an accompanying digital scan that is available to view in the history file. Any Daytona Spyder is special, but in a world where restoration is the norm, finding a Daytona Spyder in such original and pristine condition is incredibly rare. We are incredibly proud to offer this exceptional example, it remains perfectly preserved, still in its first “Marrone” paint and original interior. A symbol of Ferrari’s golden era, this example is not just a car, but a time capsule.

A stunning original example of the rare, desirable and unique Ferrari 365 GTS/4 “Daytona.” With Ferrari Classiche Certification and an odometer reading only 3897 miles this Daytona is a fine addition to every serious Ferrari Collection.
